Should You Kill Big Pete in Cyberpunk 2077? Making the Right Choice

In the sprawling world of Cyberpunk 2077, you’re constantly faced with tough decisions that can alter the course of your journey as V. Many of these choices aren’t just about your fate, but about the lives of those around you. One such crucial decision arises during the gig “Big Pete’s Got Problems,” where you encounter the techie, Big Pete, himself. You’re there to solve a problem, but will you become Big Pete’s ultimate problem?

This guide dives into the heart of this dilemma: Should You Kill Big Pete or spare him? We’ll break down who Big Pete is, how to find him, and most importantly, what the consequences are of your choice, ensuring you make the most informed decision in Night City.

Who Exactly is Big Pete?

Big Pete operates out of Autowerks, nestled in the gritty Badlands of Night City. He’s a tech specialist who’s made a living fixing vehicles for the Wraiths, also known as the Raffen Shiv. However, Pete’s dealings have landed him in hot water with some influential figures who are connected to Dakota Smith, the fixer who assigns you the gig “Big Pete’s Got Problems.” Dakota wants Big Pete eliminated, and that’s where you come in.

Essentially, Big Pete’s technical skills and unfortunate associations have made him a target, and it’s up to you to decide his fate.

Locating Big Pete in Autowerks

Autowerks is situated in the southern region of the Badlands. If you’ve explored this area extensively, you might have already unlocked the Autowerks fast travel point, making your journey to Big Pete significantly quicker.

Upon arrival, be prepared for a hostile environment. Autowerks is guarded by turrets, surveillance cameras, and Wraith gang members. You’ll need to navigate these threats using your combat skills or stealth tactics to gain entry to the building. Once inside the garage, your objective is to reach Big Pete, who is located in the basement.

To get to him, head to the second-floor office first. You can access a terminal there containing messages between Big Pete and his brother, Tiny Mike, revealing Pete’s financial troubles and desperation. After reviewing these messages, proceed to the basement. The entrance is through a door located beneath the stairs leading to the second floor. Venturing down here will bring you face-to-face with Big Pete. He will attempt to negotiate for his life, offering you a bribe in exchange for his freedom, despite his claims of being broke to his brother.

The Pivotal Question: To Kill or Not To Kill Big Pete?

The most advantageous decision in “Big Pete’s Got Problems” is to accept Big Pete’s bribe and let him live. This choice rewards you with additional eddies, and crucially, it doesn’t negatively impact any future missions or your standing with Dakota Smith. As long as Big Pete is dealt with in some manner, from Dakota’s perspective, the contract is fulfilled.

Choosing to kill Big Pete, or even sparing him without taking the bribe, will still complete the gig. However, you will receive less money for your efforts. Therefore, there’s no tangible benefit to refusing the bribe or eliminating Big Pete. You could even take the bribe and then eliminate him afterward if you are so inclined, though this provides no additional reward.

In conclusion, for the most profitable and equally effective outcome, accepting Big Pete’s bribe and letting him escape is the optimal choice in Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a morally gray area, perhaps, but in Night City, sometimes the pragmatic path is the most rewarding.
