From a young age, Dr. Kim’s dream was to become a veterinarian. Growing up in San Francisco and attending Lowell High School, her journey began early with a volunteer position right here at Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital. Even as a kennel assistant, she was immersed in the world of animal care, learning the ropes of hospital operations and developing a deep empathy for patients under the care of Dr. McElroy, the practice’s previous owner. This early experience solidified her commitment to veterinary medicine and to serving the SF pet community.
Driven by her passion, Dr. Kim pursued her pre-medical studies at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In 1992, she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. Her strong academic foundation paved the way for her return to California, where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis in 1996. UC Davis is renowned for its veterinary program, and Dr. Kim’s degree from this institution underscores her commitment to excellence in veterinary care within the SF pet hospital landscape.
Dr. Kim has cultivated a particular expertise in surgery, making her a valuable asset to our sf pet hospital. She enhanced her surgical skills through a rigorous externship at the Animal Medical Center in New York in 1995. Her advanced training includes certification in Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) procedures, a testament to her proficiency in orthopedic surgery. Furthermore, Dr. Kim has expanded her surgical repertoire with training in laparoscopic surgery at the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas. This dedication to advanced surgical techniques ensures that Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital remains at the forefront of SF pet hospital services.
Before finding her professional home at Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Kim dedicated almost two decades to serving the pets of the Marina-Pacific Heights neighborhood. Following the acquisition of her previous hospital by a large corporation, Dr. Kim sought a return to a veterinarian-owned practice. This led her to Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Singla, where she discovered a practice that mirrored her values and commitment to community-focused care. She appreciates Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital’s ability to maintain a welcoming, neighborhood atmosphere while integrating cutting-edge technology and upholding superior service standards, qualities that are highly valued by pet owners seeking an excellent sf pet hospital.
Dr. Kim is an active member of the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), further demonstrating her commitment to professional excellence. She is also APHIS certified. Beyond her dedication to her patients at our sf pet hospital, Dr. Kim cherishes time spent with her family and her two orange cats in her San Francisco home.
