Nom Nom: A Focus on Fresh, Palatable Meals
In a direct comparison, Nom Nom emerges as my top recommendation, largely due to my dogs, Copper and Skye’s, clear preference for their meals. While The Pets Table presents a compelling and versatile subscription service with a wide array of options, including different food formats, palatability is paramount, especially with picky eaters.
Nom Nom distinguishes itself with meals that feature visibly chunky pieces of meat combined with fresh, vibrant fruits and vegetables. In contrast, The Pets Table’s fresh food appeared less visually appealing to both me and, more importantly, to my dogs.

My initial experience with Nom Nom dates back to 2018. Even then, they stood out as a rising star in the fresh pet food sector. Nom Nom exclusively offers fresh dog food, formulated by veterinary nutritionists using high-quality ingredients, and tailored to your dog’s individual profile.
Their recipe selection includes beef, chicken, pork, and turkey – a solid range for most dogs, even those with some pickiness. However, expanding to a few more recipes could offer even greater variety.
The signup process involves a detailed questionnaire about your dog, although the precise degree of personalization in the recipes remains somewhat unclear. Compared to other fresh dog food brands I’ve tried, Nom Nom’s pouches are remarkably easy to open, and the food itself looks more appetizing.
One potential drawback is the freezer space required for storage. Nom Nom’s packaging isn’t as space-efficient for freezer or refrigerator stacking as some competitors, likely due to the chunkier consistency of the food.
While Copper and Skye enjoyed Nom Nom and preferred it over Ollie and The Pets Table, they still favor The Farmer’s Dog slightly more.

The Pets Table: Variety and Flexible Subscriptions
The Pets Table distinguishes itself from Nom Nom by offering both fresh and air-dried dog food options. This allows you to choose a fresh, dry, mixed, or half-fresh subscription, accommodating different budgets and preferences. The variety in formats is a significant advantage.
Focusing on their fresh recipes, The Pets Table offers Chicken Casserole with Green Beans, Beef Stew with Carrots, and Turkey Casserole with Broccoli. This is a slightly smaller selection compared to Nom Nom’s four recipes.
If you’re familiar with Hello Fresh, The Pets Table’s signup questionnaire will feel similar. It gathers essential information about your dog to recommend a suitable meal plan and determine the subscription cost.
Each Pets Table meal packet includes portion guidelines, but the slim pouch design makes accurate portioning a bit challenging.
My dogs were less enthusiastic about The Pets Table’s fresh food compared to Nom Nom. However, they did enjoy the air-dried recipes. This suggests The Pets Table might be a better fit for less picky dogs or those who enjoy a mix of textures.

Final Verdict: Nom Nom Edges Out The Pets Table
In conclusion, after thoroughly comparing Nom Nom and The Pets Table, Nom Nom is my preferred choice based on my dogs’ experiences.
The taste test proved to be the deciding factor, especially when catering to a fussy eater like my Alaskan Klee Kai, Skye.
While The Pets Table offers greater versatility with its range of fresh and air-dried food options and subscription flexibility, Nom Nom ultimately won over my dogs’ palates.
However, if you have a particularly picky eater, it’s worth noting that my dogs favored The Farmer’s Dog even more than Nom Nom and The Pets Table. Currently, my dogs are thriving on a combination of raw and air-dried dog food.
