Meet the Playwright: Lauren Gunderson
LAUREN M. GUNDERSON stands as one of America’s most prominent contemporary playwrights. Recognized as the most produced playwright in America in 2019, her accolades include the prestigious Lanford Wilson Award, the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award, and the Otis Guernsey New Voices Award. She is also a celebrated finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the John Gassner Award for Playwriting. Furthering her commitment to theatrical innovation, Gunderson was honored with a Mellon Foundation 3-Year Residency at Marin Theatre Company.
Her academic foundation is rooted in Southern Literature and Drama from Emory University, complemented by advanced studies in Dramatic Writing at NYU’s Tisch School, where she was a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship. Gunderson’s impactful narratives have been commissioned, produced, and nurtured by leading theater companies across the United States, including South Coast Rep (Emilie, Silent Sky), The Kennedy Center (The Amazing Adventures of Dr. Wonderful And Her Dog!), Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and many others.
