Peter Kenneth Mol, aged 94, formerly of Sioux Center, IA, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Aurelia, Iowa. His life, marked by faith, family, and dedicated service, will be remembered and cherished by those who knew him.
A funeral service to celebrate Peter Mol’s life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Centerpoint Church of Sioux Center. Following the service, interment with full military honors will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa, honoring his service to his country. For those unable to attend in person, a Peter Mol Livestream Link will be available, allowing friends and family to join virtually in remembrance.
Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the commencement of the funeral service, providing an opportunity for friends and family to offer their condolences and share memories of Peter Mol.
In lieu of floral tributes or gifts, the Mol family kindly requests that memorials be directed to Words of Hope, a testament to Peter’s commitment to his Christian faith and spreading its message.
Born on January 30, 1930, on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa, Peter Kenneth Mol was the son of Clarence and Gertie (Proper) Mol. Growing up on the family farm alongside his four siblings, Peter attended Country School and Sioux Center High School, establishing his roots in the Sioux Center community.
Peter Mol’s dedication extended to his nation as he enlisted in the United States Army in September 1953. He served honorably until his discharge in September 1955 from Ft. Hamilton, New York, demonstrating his commitment to service and duty.
On November 9, 1955, Peter Mol married Bertha Achterhoff at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa, embarking on a loving partnership that would last for 69 years. Their union was blessed with four children, and together they built a life on an acreage northeast of Sioux Center. Peter dedicated himself to farming until the early 1970s, after which he explored various employment opportunities before retiring from Sioux-Preme Packing Co. In May 2010, Peter and Bertha transitioned from their acreage to the New Homestead in Sioux Center and later moved to Accura Healthcare of Aurelia in February 2022.
A highlight in Peter Mol’s life was his participation in the Midwest Honor Flight in September 2019, an experience that deeply resonated with him and honored his military service. Peter found solace and joy in reading and studying the Bible, tending to his outdoor space, and listening to Christian music, reflecting his devout faith and appreciation for simple pleasures.
Peter Mol is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Bertha; his children, Jeanne Jackson of Cherokee, IA, Carl (Janet) Mol of Burnsville, MN, Linda (Gene) McCallum of College Station, TX, and Ken (Stacy) Mol of Spencer, IA; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Angeline (Marion) Boersma of Gresham, OR. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will fondly remember him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gertie; his siblings, Neal (Grace) Mol, Kathryn (Francis) Medema, Elberta (Henry) Swaagman; and his grandson, Cody McCallum. Peter Mol’s legacy of faith, family, and service will continue to inspire those who knew him.
