24-Hour Study Room: Access Anytime
For students needing round-the-clock access to study facilities, the Peter J Shields Library provides a 24-hour study room, available throughout the year. This service is especially beneficial during peak study periods, such as final exams, with expanded locations to ensure ample space.
The 24-hour study room entrance is conveniently situated on the north side of the building, directly opposite the iconic UC Davis Quad. Access is exclusive to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, requiring a simple swipe of your student ID card at the entrance reader. Should you encounter any issues accessing the room, please report them promptly via the Technical Support form.
Collaborative Learning: Group Study Rooms
Peter J Shields Library features eight dedicated group study rooms, ideal for collaborative projects and study sessions. These rooms are available by reservation, ensuring you and your group have a private and productive space to work together.

Graduate Study Nooks: Dedicated Spaces for Advanced Scholars
For PhD and Masters students, Peter J Shields Library offers 35 graduate study nooks. These individual study spaces are assigned based on availability for a term of one year, renewable quarterly, with assignments made from a chronological waiting list. Double assignments are possible upon request from both parties.

Faculty Research Rooms: Resources for Academic Research
Peter J Shields Library provides 28 faculty research rooms for Academic Senate members, Academic Federation research title holders, and Emeriti faculty. These rooms support library-centered projects that require significant use and storage of library materials. Please note, these rooms are intended for research purposes and not as general office space.
