Peter Gaudio, originally from Corona, Queens, has built a notable acting career, marked by memorable roles and collaborations with prominent figures in the industry. Even with numerous acting credits to his name, Gaudio still experiences moments of awe, especially when working alongside admired peers like Fran Drescher.
This was recently the case when Gaudio had the opportunity to film scenes with Fran Drescher, the iconic star of “The Nanny” and a fellow Queens native from Flushing. They are co-starring in the Amazon Prime series “Gravesend,” a project that has been a highlight in Gaudio’s career. “She’s a wonderful person to work with,” Peter Gaudio shared, expressing his admiration for Drescher. “I’ve long admired her creativity and craft. It’s an experience you can only dream of.”
Growing up in Corona and later moving to Bayside, Peter Gaudio was surrounded by a vibrant, and sometimes challenging, environment. He recalls the presence of mobsters in his neighborhood, an element of his upbringing that, instead of attracting him, steered him towards a different path. Inspired by legendary actors like Sylvester Stallone, Al Pacino, and Marlon Brando, Gaudio sought to channel his energy into creative pursuits. Initially, this passion manifested in bodybuilding, where he achieved significant success, even earning the title of “Mr. New York City.” However, his desire to express himself creatively eventually led him to pursue acting.
Early in his acting journey, Peter Gaudio formed a lasting professional relationship with actor William DeMeo. Their friendship began when they shared a scene in the 1993 film “A Bronx Tale.” Since then, they have collaborated on numerous projects, with their most recent venture being the Amazon Prime series “Gravesend.” In “Gravesend,” which is nearing the completion of filming its second season, Peter Gaudio portrays the character Rocco Giodano. The show delves into the lives of mafiosos in 1980s New York City, a period and setting that resonates deeply with Gaudio, given his own experiences growing up in the city during that era.
“Everything, from the music, cars, wardrobe and interactions between others were right on point,” Gaudio remarked, emphasizing the show’s authentic portrayal of the time. William DeMeo not only stars as the main character, Benny Z, but also serves as a writer and director for the series. Peter Gaudio describes his character, Rocco Giodano, as fitting into his familiar type of “tough guy” roles. However, he adds depth to Giodano, portraying him as a principled character who is also a gentleman and a fitness enthusiast, distinguishing him from typical mobster portrayals. “Rocco is true to life,” Gaudio stated, highlighting the character’s realism.
While Peter Gaudio is comfortable and convincing in tough roles, he also appreciates opportunities to showcase a more sensitive side. He cites his role as Al Bonetelli in the 2016 film “Take it Back” as one of his favorites, where he was able to portray a character offering heartfelt advice to his nephew. Beyond his acting career, Peter Gaudio takes pride in his personal achievements, particularly being the first white-collar worker in his family. His sense of accomplishment extends to his family life, as he proudly shared that his daughter is pursuing higher education with aspirations of becoming a doctor. “There is no role more important to me in this world than being a father to my daughter Petrina,” Gaudio expressed.
In addition to his acting endeavors, Peter Gaudio remains committed to promoting fitness. For 27 years, he has run Hardcore Fitness, a fitness business on Long Island. His dedication to both physical and mental well-being reflects a holistic approach to life, aiming to inspire others to feel their best, both in mind and body, much like he strives to do. Peter Gaudio’s journey showcases a blend of toughness and sensitivity, discipline and creativity, making him a compelling figure both on and off screen.
