Peter Claffey Cast as Ser Duncan the Tall in *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*

Fans of Game of Thrones are eagerly awaiting A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the prequel series based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas. Set before the events of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, this series explores the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), across the Seven Kingdoms. Known for a lighter tone than Martin’s other works, these stories still promise plenty of action, adventure, drama, and even romance, sure to resonate with Game of Thrones enthusiasts.

The role of Egg will be played by young actor Dexter Sol Ansell, and Ser Duncan the Tall, or Dunk, will be portrayed by Irish actor and former rugby player Peter Claffey.

A defining characteristic of Dunk is his towering height, described as nearly seven feet tall in the books. George R.R. Martin often includes exceptionally tall characters in his narratives, such as Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane and Hodor, who are also of similar stature. Casting actors to embody these giants presents a unique challenge. Peter Claffey’s official profile on It’s Rugby lists his height as 1.96 meters, which translates to just over 6’4″. His weight is recorded at 119 kilograms, or 262 pounds. While not quite seven feet, Claffey is undeniably a large and imposing figure, making him a believable Dunk.

To get a glimpse of Claffey’s on-screen presence, viewers can check out a clip from the British comedy horror series Wreck. In this scene, Claffey plays Comac, confined to a room on a cruise ship and visibly restless. The scene also showcases Claffey’s considerable physique.

While an exact premiere date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is still under wraps, the first season is anticipated to debut sometime in 2025. In the meantime, the second season of House of the Dragon, HBO’s initial Game of Thrones prequel, is set to premiere on HBO and Max on June 16th.
