Are you a recent Ph.D. graduate passionate about natural history and eager to conduct impactful research? The Peter Buck Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Smithsonian Institution, offers an exceptional opportunity to advance your scientific career. Named in honor of Peter Buck, a dedicated member of the NMNH Board, this prestigious program supports independent, resident research utilizing the vast collections and cutting-edge facilities of the NMNH.
Unlocking Research Potential: The Peter Buck Fellowship
The Peter Buck Fellowship Program is designed to cultivate the next generation of leading scientists and museum professionals. By fostering a dynamic exchange of innovative ideas and specialized skills within the NMNH community, the program awards multi-year postdoctoral fellowships to external scholars. These fellowships are open to individuals of all nationalities holding a Ph.D. or equivalent degree earned within the last five years. Fellows conduct their research in residence at NMNH, guided by a dedicated NMNH staff scientist.
The core objectives of the Peter Buck Fellowship are twofold:
- Invest in Future Scientific Leaders: To provide comprehensive training and mentorship for promising postdoctoral researchers, equipping them with the expertise and experience necessary to excel in their fields.
- Enrich the NMNH Research Environment: To infuse the museum community with fresh perspectives, novel research approaches, and advanced skills, thereby enhancing the breadth and depth of ongoing scientific inquiry.
