Spay/neuter clinics are often driven by a powerful mission: to make a significant impact on pet overpopulation. To achieve this, many operate with a high-volume approach. A dedicated high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) veterinarian routinely performs 30 or more surgeries each day. It’s crucial to understand that while volume is a key aspect, quality is never compromised. Initially, one might wonder if such high numbers could affect patient safety. However, recent studies indicate quite the opposite. In fact, HQHVSN clinics have demonstrated peri-operative mortality rates approximately ten times lower than those reported in private practices that offer a wider range of services. This remarkable statistic is likely attributed to the continuous refinement of surgical techniques and protocols born from extensive, focused experience. Teams specializing in a specific set of procedures naturally develop exceptional proficiency. Choosing HQHVSN is often the most beneficial path for your pet.
What to Expect Before Your Pet’s Surgery
While bloodwork is highly encouraged for all pets undergoing spay/neuter procedures, it’s a requirement for senior pets aged seven and above. This crucial step must be scheduled in advance and isn’t available on the day of surgery. Rest assured, if your pet’s breed or condition necessitates a specialized anesthesia protocol, we will discuss this with you. We recognize that anesthesia isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, particularly at a quality-focused HQHVSN clinic like ours. Brachycephalic breeds, senior animals, breed-specific sensitivities, and anxious pets all receive customized protocols to ensure their safety and comfort, and to ease your concerns. These tailored protocols are always determined by the veterinarian’s professional judgment. We will ask you to withhold food from your pet after midnight on the night before surgery and to bring them in early the following morning.

What Happens During Your Pet’s Surgery
Every pet undergoing a spay or neuter procedure at our clinic receives general anesthesia. Pain management is a priority for every single animal, without exception. Just like humans, pets experience pain, and ensuring their comfort is paramount. Dogs will be sent home with additional pain medication, while cats receive a long-acting pain injection at the clinic, eliminating the need for you to administer medication at home. Throughout the entire surgical procedure, we meticulously monitor your pet’s vital signs, including SPO2 oxygen concentration, heart rate, respiratory rate, EKG waves, blood pressure, mucous membrane color, capillary refill time, and other critical indicators. Intravenous (IV) fluids are frequently administered. These fluids play a vital role in flushing the anesthetic from the liver and kidneys, promoting a smoother and faster recovery, maintaining stable vital functions, and keeping your pet properly hydrated. Your pet is never alone during the day; our dedicated staff provides constant supervision and monitoring. Always remember, quality is a cornerstone of HQHVSN!
Our surgical suite adheres to the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation. Each pet is provided with a sterile, individually packaged instrument pack. Our surgical staff wears proper sterile attire, and we rigorously disinfect every surface from top to bottom using RESCUE cleaner. This fast-acting, effective, and safe cleaning solution ensures a healthy and hygienic environment for all animals in our care.
Post-Surgery Care and Recovery
After surgery, our focus remains intensely on your pet. We maintain continuous monitoring and observation of every animal as they recover. No pet is discharged from our facility until they are fully alert, able to walk steadily, and show no signs of distress. Every dog will be sent home with pain medication to ensure their continued comfort. Cats receive a long-lasting pain injection at the clinic, providing extended relief.
For your peace of mind and ongoing support, you will have access to a dedicated post-surgery cell phone number. You can text this number with any concerns or questions that may arise during your pet’s recovery. Again, quality of care extends beyond the surgery itself!
We offer complimentary re-check examinations for up to two weeks following surgery. While there may be a minimal charge if additional medications or a recovery cone are needed, the examination itself is provided at no cost.
We are deeply committed to the entire process, from the initial scheduling of your pet’s procedure to their complete healing. We are a dedicated team of veterinary professionals driven by a shared mission and vision: to help all pet owners access affordable, high-quality spay/neuter and vaccination services. We are true pet savers, dedicated to the well-being of animals and the community.
