Open Door Pet Rescue, established in 1975, stands as the premier no-kill animal sanctuary in the St. Louis region and across Missouri. Our core mission at Open Door Pet Rescue is to offer a sanctuary of the highest caliber for abandoned cats and dogs, providing them with a renewed opportunity to find their forever homes. We are deeply committed to our community, welcoming stray, mistreated, neglected, and unwanted cats and dogs into our care and diligently working to place them in loving adoptive families. Every day, we dedicate ourselves to providing shelter, nourishment, medical attention, and boundless affection to over 400 animals. At Open Door, every animal finds not just a temporary space, but a genuine home and a second chance at a fulfilling life. If you’re seeking to adopt a dog or cat, you’ll discover the widest selection of animals to choose from right here in our care! Our adoption fee, which includes spaying/neutering, microchipping, initial vaccinations, and parasite prevention, is $150 for puppies, dogs, and kittens, and $75 for adult cats. Prior to adoption, dogs are screened for heartworm, and cats are tested for FIV/FeLV. We warmly invite you to visit and meet our wonderful dogs and cats.
Our Adoption Promise
At Open Door Pet Rescue, we’ve streamlined our adoption process to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition for both you and our rescued animals. Once you’ve completed our preliminary online form, we’ll arrange a personalized appointment for you to visit our sanctuary. Our experienced staff will guide you in meeting animals that align with your lifestyle and preferences, helping you find the perfect companion. Once you’ve found a pet you connect with, we’ll reserve that animal for you pending a successful home visit. This step is crucial for us to ensure that our beloved pets are entering a safe, nurturing, and joyful environment. Following the approval of your home visit, the adoption fee is processed when you come to welcome your new family member home.
To ensure the well-being of our animals and facilitate successful adoptions within our community, we require that adopters reside within a 100-mile radius of our shelter. This policy helps us provide necessary post-adoption support and ensures the pets remain within a reasonable distance should any follow-up be needed. We believe that open door pet rescue is more than just a name; it’s our commitment to every animal that comes through our doors, and to every family that opens their heart and home to a rescued pet. Choose Open Door Pet Rescue and become part of a story of hope, healing, and happy beginnings.
