Exploring Different Types of Pet Adoptions

Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center offers two main types of adoptions to cater to different circumstances and needs:

Ready-to-Go Adoptions

“Ready-to-go” pets are animals that have completed their mandatory “Stray Hold” period. They have also been spayed/neutered and are fully vaccinated, meaning they are ready to become part of your family immediately. The standard adoption fee for “ready-to-go” animals is $20, although it’s always wise to check for any exceptions or special promotions.

Pre-Adoptions

For those interested in pets still undergoing their “Stray Hold” or awaiting veterinary services, pre-adoption offers an early opportunity to reserve your future companion. While these pets are available for early adoption, they cannot go home with you until they have received all necessary vaccinations and procedures. It’s important to be aware that the Pet Resource Center cannot hold or reserve animals outside of this pre-adoption process. Similar to “ready-to-go” adoptions, pre-adoption fees are also $20, unless specified otherwise, and do not include the $20 rabies license fee.
