From a pivotal decision that ignited my academic drive to finding my professional home at Alicia Pet Care Center, my journey in veterinary medicine has been nothing short of transformative. My story is one of passion, adventure, and a deep commitment to animal well-being, culminating in my exciting new role at Alicia Pet Care Center.
My initial foray into veterinary medicine was sparked by a profound realization: my true calling lay in the realm of animal care. This epiphany fueled my academic pursuits, leading me to enroll in extra science courses and labs to fulfill prerequisites for veterinary school. Simultaneously, I gained invaluable hands-on experience working in veterinary clinics and dedicated myself to GRE preparation. After a year as a small animal veterinary technician, I embarked on a remarkable educational journey with the Colorado State University/University of Alaska Fairbanks Collaborative Veterinary program. Alaska, with its promise of adventure, beckoned me. I spent my first two years in Fairbanks alongside nine classmates from Colorado.
Unexpectedly, orientation week in Alaska brought more than just academic introductions; it was where I met my husband during a rugby match. Despite my lack of rugby expertise, this chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong partnership. He was stationed at Fort Wainwright and participated in a campus tournament. In a twist of fate, we discovered shared connections to my grandmother’s neighborhood, yet it took the Alaskan wilderness to bring us together. He playfully claims a minor in veterinary medicine due to his unwavering support during my studies. Our veterinary program offered unparalleled hands-on learning, both in classrooms and field settings. I had the unique opportunity to work closely with musk oxen, reindeer, and even the incredible Iditarod dogs.
Following my second year in Alaska, and with two Alaskan huskies joining our family, my husband, our dogs, and I embarked on a cross-country move in my trusty Jeep. We journeyed through Canada to Fort Collins, Colorado, where I completed my clinical years with the rest of my cohort.
2020 marked my graduation from veterinary school, albeit through a remote ceremony. I then joined Thrive Pet Healthcare, a reputable general practice located in Santa Ana, California. Working alongside an exceptional team, I dedicated myself to providing top-tier veterinary care. In 2021, I achieved certification in veterinary medical acupuncture, a specialization that ignited a particular passion within me. I discovered a profound sense of fulfillment in enhancing the comfort and quality of life for senior pets who were simply “slowing down.” It was then I truly understood the depth of impact I could have on both animal and human lives by ensuring pets could enjoy their golden years with dignity and comfort. My journey into veterinary medicine was driven by a love for animals, medicine, and people. While human hospitals weren’t my path, the profound connection I forge with pets and their devoted owners fuels my passion daily. My daily aspiration is to create an environment where pets feel secure, owners feel heard and have their questions answered and goals met, and my veterinary team feels purposeful and valued.
Outside of my professional life, I cherish spending time outdoors with my family. Our adventures range from hiking and camping to mountain biking, beach trips, or simply relaxing in our yard with our dogs. Kenai, our energetic sled dog, only truly tires after running freely for at least ten miles. Mishka, our Alaskan village dog, has enthusiastically embraced the California lifestyle, developing a love for swimming and can spend hours in the water. I also enjoy staying active with workouts, experimenting with cooking (though I consider myself a novice), and tackling DIY home improvement projects.
Joining Alicia Pet Care Center is an exciting chapter in my veterinary career, and I am deeply grateful to be part of such a dedicated and compassionate team. My commitment is to deliver the highest standard of veterinary medicine and client communication. At Alicia Pet Care Center, I aim to ensure pet parents feel genuinely heard and understood, and that every pet feels loved, safe, and meticulously cared for. I am genuinely excited to welcome you and your beloved pets to Alicia Pet Care Center and look forward to building lasting relationships within our community.
