He revisited the role of Ace in the 1995 sequel, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Carrey solidified his status as a leading man throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, starring in blockbuster comedies such as Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Before becoming a household name as Monica Geller on the beloved sitcom Friends, Courteney Cox played Melissa Robinson, the Miami Dolphins’ publicist in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Robinson’s initial disdain for Ventura’s eccentricities slowly transforms into an undeniable attraction as they collaborate on the mascot case. Cox’s early career included modeling and a memorable appearance dancing with Bruce Springsteen in his 1984 “Dancing in the Dark” music video. Her decade-long portrayal of Monica Geller garnered critical praise. Sean Young portrayed Lt. Lois Einhorn, the no-nonsense leader of the Miami Police Department, in Ace Ventura. The character’s controversial reveal and Ventura’s over-the-top reaction have been debated since the film’s release. Young is widely recognized for her role as Rachael in the science fiction classic Blade Runner (1982). Tone Loc as Emilio

Tone Loc, born Anthony Terrell Smith, played Emilio, Ace Ventura’s only ally within the police force. Before his acting career, Tone Loc was a prominent figure in the Los Angeles rap scene. Known for his hit singles “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina” (1989), co-written by Young MC, Tone Loc transitioned to acting after his second album Cool Hand Loc (1991) didn’t achieve the same success. His first acting role was as Ronnie Paxton in the dramedy Roc in the early 1990s. After Ace Ventura, Tone Loc appeared in films like Blank Check and Heat and made guest appearances on popular 90s TV shows such as NewsRadio, Touched by an Angel, Early Edition, and Martin. In 2000, he had a recurring role as Lenny in the Showtime sitcom Rude Awakening, and in 2001, he co-starred with John Stamos in the crime drama Thieves. Recognizable for his distinctive raspy voice, Tone Loc has also worked as a voice actor, voicing C-Bear in C-Bear and Jamal (1996) and characters in Chowder and Uncle Grandpa. In recent years, Tone Loc has returned to his music roots, joining the I Love the 90s tour since 2015, sharing the stage with fellow hip hop and R&B artists like Salt-N-Pepa, TLC, Coolio, and Young MC.

Dan Marino as Himself

Football legend Dan Marino famously played himself in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. In the film, Marino becomes a target alongside Snowflake, the Dolphins’ mascot, requiring Ventura’s intervention to rescue both. Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 1983, Marino was their star quarterback for 17 seasons. Upon retiring in 1999, Marino held NFL records for passing yards, completions, and touchdown passes. After his football career, Marino remained connected to the sport as an analyst for CBS’ The NFL Today and HBO’s Inside the NFL. In 2014, he rejoined the Dolphins as a special advisor. Beyond football, Marino has had a successful side career playing himself in films and TV shows like The Simpsons, Little Nicky, and Bad Boys II. In 2018, Marino hosted Animal Cracker, a CW comedy special featuring sports mascots. Marino is also known for his philanthropic work, establishing the Dan Marino Foundation for children with neurodevelopmental disorders in 1992 and opening the Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center in 1995.

Randall “Tex” Cobb as “Gruff Man”

Randall “Tex” Cobb portrayed the unnamed “Gruff Man,” a menacing dog thief in the opening scene of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Cobb’s character encounters Ventura when the detective tries to reclaim a client’s dog. Cobb gained prominence as a boxer in the 1980s, known for his brutal 1982 fight against WBC heavyweight champion Larry Holmes. Before Ace Ventura, Cobb appeared in The Champ (1979) with Jon Voight and Raising Arizona (1987) as bounty hunter Leonard Smalls. After Ace Ventura, he guest-starred in Highlander: The Series and reunited with Jim Carrey in Liar Liar (1997). Cobb’s last acting role before shifting his focus to education was in the Walker, Texas Ranger finale in 2001. In 2008, Cobb graduated magna cum laude from Temple University with a degree in sports management.
