Traveling with your furry friend can enrich your experiences, turning ordinary trips into unforgettable adventures. At pet-friendly destinations like our Virginia bed and breakfast, we’re reminded daily of the sheer joy our dog guests bring. There’s nothing quite like watching dogs romp and play, their happiness infectious. Our own Golden Retriever, Callie, is usually in the thick of it, and today is no exception with the addition of Ursa, an energetic 11-month-old mixed puppy; Bandit, a stately German Shepherd; and Doc, a charming white, tan, and black dog – all eager to play! The scene of dogs and their humans enjoying themselves is truly heartwarming and often brings a smile to everyone’s face.
Guests frequently tell us how much their dogs love staying here, becoming repeat visitors year after year. We’ve had the pleasure of watching many canine guests grow from playful puppies to dignified seniors, cherishing each stage of their lives. We also share in the sorrow with our guests when they experience the inevitable loss of their beloved pets, creating a true community of pet lovers.
Dogs have even taken on special roles in some of the elopements hosted here, serving as bridesmaids or best men! Their antics are often hilarious, adding an element of lightheartedness and unconditional love to every occasion. Welcoming diverse breeds is another delightful aspect of being pet-friendly. Recently, we were introduced to Anime, a Japanese Shiba Inu, a Spitz breed. Our guest explained their fox-like appearance and cat-like grooming habits, which we found fascinating. Just last week, we met Luka, a beautiful Saluki, for the first time, expanding our appreciation for the variety of dog breeds.
Among the most memorable dog guests have been Agamemnon, an enormous but gentle 225 lbs bull mastiff, and a pair of giant schnauzers – nearly the size of Great Danes, which was quite a surprise! One of the most amusing sights is when our regular guests arrive on a motorcycle with their Golden Retriever, Gus, riding in the sidecar. Despite wearing goggles, Gus isn’t too keen on helmets, but he clearly enjoys the ride!
For those looking for “Pet Friendly Near Me” options, the area around our Inn offers numerous dog-friendly locations. The Robinson River is perfect for a splash, and the river trails are ideal for walks. Dogs also love running around in the pastures. Weather permitting, we even serve breakfast on the porch so your dog can join you. Beyond the Inn, we provide a list of welcoming places for dogs, including Early Mountain Vineyards, Old House Vineyards, Keswick Vineyards, and Ducard Vineyards, which often provide dog treats and water bowls. While tasting rooms may be off-limits, many wineries offer lovely covered patios or terraces where you can enjoy a glass of wine and a picnic from the Inn with your canine companion.
