“All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso, who badly wants to return to the New York Mets while the club insists they want him back too, must decide whether he’s going to swallow his pride and take the Mets’ three-year offer for about $70 million,” Nightengale stated. He further elaborated that Alonso, a four-time All-Star and the National League’s home run leader since 2019 with 226, is facing limited options.
The market for first basemen moved quickly earlier in the offseason, with numerous teams filling their needs, seemingly leaving Alonso with fewer suitors. Nightengale pointed out that the Toronto Blue Jays were the only serious contender outside of the Mets, but no deal materialized. This lack of external interest strengthens the likelihood of Alonso staying in Queens.
As it stands, it appears to be only a matter of time before Pete Alonso And The Mets agree to a three-year contract.
