Finding a new furry family member can be an incredibly rewarding experience, and Greenville Pet Shelter is dedicated to making that process as smooth and joyful as possible. Located in the heart of Greenville, our shelter is a haven for dogs and cats of all breeds, ages, and personalities, all waiting to find their forever homes. We believe that every animal deserves a loving family, and we strive to connect people with pets that will bring them years of companionship and happiness. Adopting a pet from Greenville Pet Shelter not only enriches your life but also gives a deserving animal a second chance at a happy life.
One of the unique programs we are proud to offer at Greenville Pet Shelter is our Pets for Vets initiative. As a token of our gratitude for their service, we offer free adoptions to veterans with proof of service, every single day. We understand the profound bond between veterans and animals, and we believe that pets can offer invaluable emotional support and companionship to those who have served our country. This program is designed to make pet adoption accessible and affordable for veterans, providing them with loving companions while also giving our shelter animals homes.
All adoptions at Greenville Pet Shelter, including through the Pets for Vets program, come with a comprehensive package of services to ensure your new pet is healthy and ready to join your family. This includes:
- Spay or Neuter Surgery: Contributing to responsible pet population control and offering health benefits for your adopted pet.

- PetHub ID Tag: Providing an additional layer of identification and access to PetHub’s 24/7 found pet hotline and online profile services.

We are committed to helping you find not just any pet, but the right pet for your lifestyle and family. We recognize that every animal and every person is unique, and compatibility is key to a successful long-term relationship. That’s why Greenville Pet Shelter offers an Adoption Audition – a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If, within 30 days of adopting a pet, you find that the match isn’t quite right, you can return the pet to us. Our priority is the well-being of both our animals and adopters, and this policy ensures a safety net for everyone involved.
Ready to start the adoption journey at Greenville Pet Shelter? Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to our adoption process:
Step 1: Browse Our Available Pets
Begin by exploring the adorable dogs and cats currently seeking homes on our website. We keep our online listings updated with photos and detailed profiles of all our available animals. Use our handy filters to narrow your search by species, breed, age, size, and more to find pets that match your preferences. Remember, many of our pets are also living in loving foster homes and are equally available for adoption!
Step 2: Submit An Adoption Inquiry
Once you’ve spotted a pet that captures your heart, click on their image to view their full profile. If you believe they could be a wonderful addition to your family and you’re eager to meet them, simply click the “Apply for Adoption” button to submit an online inquiry. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit us during our adoption walk-in hours, Monday through Saturday, from 12 pm to 5 pm. Submitting an inquiry helps us know you’re interested and allows our team to prepare for your visit and answer any initial questions you may have. Please note that an inquiry does not place a hold on the pet, but it’s the best way to initiate the adoption process.
Step 3: Meet Your Potential New Pet
If the pet you are interested in is at our shelter facility, we encourage you to visit as soon as possible during our walk-in hours. If you’ve submitted an adoption inquiry online, our dedicated team will aim to respond within 1-2 business days to assist you further. For pets living in foster homes, we will connect you directly with their foster family, who will typically respond within 1-2 days to arrange a convenient time for you to meet the pet.
Step 4: Determine If It’s a Good Match
Meeting your potential new pet is a crucial step in ensuring a successful adoption. Our experienced adoption counselors and foster families are invaluable resources during this stage. They will share everything they know about the pet’s personality, history, and needs to help you determine if it’s a good fit for your home, lifestyle, and other pets. Don’t worry if it doesn’t feel like the perfect match right away – we are here to help you find a pet that truly complements your family. We have many wonderful dogs and cats needing loving homes!
Step 5: Finalize the Adoption
This is the exciting part – making it official! In most cases, you can take your newly adopted pet home on the very same day. However, occasionally, a pet may need to stay a little longer for final preparations. Our adoption team will clearly communicate when your pet will be ready to go home with you. We do have a modest adoption fee, which helps us continue our mission of caring for and rehoming animals. The standard adoption fee is $35, but we often run adoption specials with waived fees – so be sure to ask about current promotions! For your convenience, our on-site retail store is stocked with all the essential pet supplies you’ll need to get started.
Step 6: Spread the Word!
If you had a positive adoption experience with Greenville Pet Shelter, we encourage you to share your story with your friends and family! Word-of-mouth is incredibly important to us. By recommending us to others looking to adopt, you help us reach more potential adopters and find loving homes for the thousands of dogs and cats we care for each year. Your support makes a real difference in the lives of animals in our community.
