There’s a unique kind of morning greeting that pet lovers understand – the happy sounds of dogs at play. Here at our Pet Friendly Bed And Breakfast, it’s a delightful daily occurrence that reminds us why we love welcoming canine guests as much as their human companions. Watching dogs romp and run, pure joy radiating from them, is truly infectious. Our own Golden Retriever, Callie, is usually right in the thick of it, but this morning was particularly special. We had Callie joined by Ursa, an adorable and energetic 11-month-old mixed breed puppy; Bandit, a strikingly elegant German Shepherd; and Doc, a charming white, tan, and black dog, all eager to engage in a morning play session. The scene of dogs and their people joyfully interacting in every direction is guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone’s face.
Guests often share with us how much their dogs adore staying here, which is why so many become returning visitors. We’ve had the pleasure of watching many of our dog guests grow up, from playful puppies to dignified seniors, cherishing every stage of their lives. And, sharing in the bonds of pet ownership, we also understand and empathize with the heartache of saying goodbye to a beloved pet. Pets are truly part of the family, and we extend that philosophy to our bed and breakfast.
In fact, our furry guests have even taken on special roles in some of the most significant moments of their humans’ lives. We’ve been honored to have dogs participate as bridesmaids or best men in elopements hosted here. Their playful antics and unconditional love always add an extra layer of warmth and levity to these already joyous occasions. Beyond the familiar breeds, we also love being introduced to new and interesting dogs. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Anime, a Japanese Shiba Inu. Our guest explained that this Spitz breed, with its fox-like appearance (we wholeheartedly agree!), is known for being fastidious groomers, much like cats. Just last week, we were introduced to Luka, a beautiful Saluki, a breed we hadn’t met before.
Some of our most memorable dog guests have been those that truly surprised us with their size. One that comes to mind is Agamemnon, an enormous but gentle Bull Mastiff who weighed in at a staggering 225 lbs! Despite his imposing size, he was incredibly well-behaved and sweet. Another pair of unforgettable guests were two Giant Schnauzers. It was quite astonishing to see dogs of that breed in person, as they truly rivaled the size of Great Danes!
However, perhaps one of the most amusing sights we’ve witnessed is the arrival of some of our favorite pet-parent guests on a motorcycle, with their Golden Retriever, Gus, riding proudly in the sidecar. Gus is quite the character; he’ll wear his goggles, but seems less enthusiastic about wearing a helmet!
For dogs eager to explore, our pet friendly bed and breakfast is ideally situated near numerous dog-friendly attractions. Just a short distance away, the Robinson River offers a wonderful place for dogs to splash and play, and the river trails are perfect for leisurely walks. Our expansive pastures also provide ample space for a rousing game of fetch. Weather permitting, we are delighted to offer breakfast service on our porch, allowing your canine companion to join you. Beyond the Inn, we also provide our guests with a curated list of local venues that warmly welcome dogs. Several wineries in the area, such as Early Mountain Vineyards, Old House Vineyards, Keswick Vineyards, and Ducard Vineyards, go the extra mile by providing dog treats and water bowls. While tasting rooms are typically off-limits to dogs, many of these wineries boast beautiful covered picnic terraces or patios, where you can relax with a glass of wine and a picnic from the Inn, all while keeping your beloved dog by your side.
