Volunteering at the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance is more than just getting a free pass; it’s about becoming part of a vibrant community and contributing to an unforgettable cultural experience. Just ask the volunteers themselves – they’ll tell you it’s a rewarding journey filled with bliss, hope, and a sense of belonging.
“GrassRoots always provides me with the gift of sheer bliss and perpetual hope that I take with me and share after I leave. I volunteer simply because I want others to have those same experiences that I have had over the years and that cannot happen without the volunteers.” – Becky
“When you volunteer at GrassRoots you not only enrich your life but you also get to form a new family. Volunteering makes you see the bigger picture on what it really takes to put on a music festival. So please volunteer and leave your worries at the road!” – Todd
“Volunteering for GrassRoots was one of the best things I ever did for myself and my music community. Helping to create a big, good thing rewards us with a feeling of accomplishment that lets us know we are each a part of a community that can do HUGE things. Anyone who contributes to that is a hero in my book.” – Chris
The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival thrives on the dedication of over 1,300 volunteers. From setting up before the festival to keeping things running smoothly during the event and packing down afterward, volunteers are the heart and soul of GrassRoots. In return for their invaluable contribution, volunteers earn festival passes – a weekend pass for extended service or a day pass for shorter shifts. It’s a fantastic way to experience the festival while giving back to the community.

Essential Information for Festival Volunteers
For those volunteering during the festival, here’s what you need to know to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience:
Scheduled Volunteer Check-In
- Please note that parking and camping fees still apply to volunteers if you plan to camp on-site.
- Volunteer check-in is located at the main gate upon arrival.
- Upon check-in, confirm your crew assignment and shift times if you are unsure of your schedule.
Please carefully review the following guidelines for volunteering at the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival:
- At-festival volunteer sign-ups are extremely limited. Secure your preferred crew and shift by signing up in advance.
- Volunteers aged 17 and under must check in with a parent or legal guardian who will be required to sign a parental consent form.
- Once the festival is underway, shift changes are not permitted. Please adhere to your assigned schedule.
- In the event you are informed that you are no longer needed for your scheduled shift, immediately report to the volunteer check-in area for reassignment.
- For parents volunteering, please ensure childcare arrangements are made for young children during your shifts. Volunteering and childcare responsibilities cannot be combined.
- Important: No pets are allowed for volunteers while on shift. Just like finding the right pet on Finger Lakes Craigslist Pets requires responsible choices, volunteering requires focused dedication.
Volunteer Quick Facts
- 12 hours of volunteering during the festival = 4-Day Weekend Pass.
- 14 hours of volunteering before or after the festival = 4-Day Weekend Pass.
- 4 hours of volunteering during the festival = 1-Day Pass (valid for the day you volunteer).
- If you have submitted a Volunteer Application and have not yet received confirmation from the Volunteer Coordinator, please proceed directly to the volunteer check-in upon arrival for your assignment.
- Strict Policy: Consumption or being under the influence of alcohol during volunteer shifts is strictly prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in immediate removal from your volunteer duties for the weekend and ineligibility to volunteer at future Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festivals or events.
Parental Consent Forms
For volunteers under the age of 18, a parental consent form is mandatory. Please ensure your parent or legal guardian completes the form. Contact us if you have any questions regarding this requirement.
