Pete Carroll News: Former Seahawks Coach Interviews with Las Vegas Raiders

Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is reportedly interviewing for the head coach position with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This marks the second team Carroll has interviewed with for a head coaching role in recent days, signaling a potential return to the NFL sidelines for the veteran coach.

Carroll’s interview with the Raiders was reported on Thursday night by Schefter on social media, just a day after Carroll interviewed for the Chicago Bears’ head coach opening. These developments indicate a strong interest in Carroll’s coaching expertise despite his recent departure from the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll boasts a remarkable legacy with the Seattle Seahawks, establishing himself as the most successful coach in franchise history. During his 14-year tenure in Seattle, Carroll achieved a 137-89-1 regular season record, led the Seahawks to ten playoff appearances, and secured two Super Bowl berths, including the franchise’s only Super Bowl victory. His final season with the Seahawks concluded with a 9-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs, marking only the fourth time in his Seattle career that the team did not advance to the postseason.

The Seahawks and Carroll parted ways last January, ushering in a new era with first-year head coach Mike Macdonald, who led the team to a 10-7 season. Meanwhile, the Raiders are currently seeking a new head coach after firing Antonio Pierce on Wednesday and general manager Tom Telesco on Thursday. Pierce’s tenure as Raiders head coach resulted in a 9-17 record after taking over mid-season in 2023, including a 4-13 season this past year. Telesco’s time with the franchise was even shorter, lasting only one season. The Raiders have experienced coaching instability for years, with Jon Gruden being the only head coach to remain with the team for more than three seasons since 1995.

A potential move to Las Vegas for Carroll would see him join a franchise with an ownership group that includes legendary former quarterback Tom Brady. Brady famously led the New England Patriots to a 28-24 victory over Carroll’s Seahawks in Super Bowl 49, adding an intriguing layer to this potential coaching appointment. The Raiders present a fresh challenge and opportunity for Carroll to bring his winning pedigree to another NFL team.
